I really enjoy getting those emails, so, don&#8217;t stop! \u00a0But, in order to provide a better and faster answer to the most common questions, I&#8217;ve put them here, on the Texas-Flyer FAQ. \u00a0If there is a question you have but don&#8217;t see it below, let me know and I&#8217;ll try to put the\u00a0answer\u00a0here.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000066; font-family: Arial;\">My answers will have a short and a long answer. \u00a0The short answer is below, and there will be a link at the end of each short answer that will point to another web page containing the long, detailed answer.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000066; font-family: Arial;\">If you don&#8217;t know the difference between an ultralight, an\u00a0Experimental Light Sport Aircraft (E-LSA), a Special Light Sport Aircraft (S-LSA) or a General Aviation (GA) aircraft,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texas-flyer.com\/newblog\/?p=4891\">click here first<\/a>!.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #666666; font-family: Arial;\">Q: \u00a0Where can I get training &#8220;around here&#8221; to fly an ultralight?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #908d32; font-family: Arial;\">A:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">As of January 31, 2010, the FAA made illegal any 2-seat ultralight trainers.\u00a0 So today it&#8217;s impossible to legally get trained to fly ultralights in an ultralight.\u00a0 Ultralights, now, are defined as 1-seat air vehicles.\u00a0 So, to be legally trained you&#8217;ll have to be trained in a Light-Sport-Aircraft (LSA) before you can safely fly your ultralight. \u00a0The rules don&#8217;t require you to get training to fly a legal ultralight, but you&#8217;d have to be pretty dumb and\/or foolhardy to try it without some lessons.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Q: \u00a0Where can I rent an ultralight or LSA?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #908d32; font-family: Arial;\">A:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Chances are slim and none that you&#8217;ll\u00a0<u>ever<\/u>\u00a0be able to rent a\u00a0legal ultralight. \u00a0Maybe\u00a0someone\u00a0does\u00a0it,\u00a0but\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0never\u00a0heard\u00a0of it!\u00a0\u00a0For someone to want to rent you an ultralight, they&#8217;d have to have it insured, and getting the right kind of insurance on a UL is difficult, if not impossible. \u00a0As odd as this sounds, you&#8217;ll probably have better luck befriending a UL owner\/pilot and eventually convincing him\/her to let you borrow it.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Tough question! \u00a0(Be sure to read the detailed answer; there&#8217;s a lot of money at stake!) \u00a0Buying an LSA is more like buying a General Aviation (GA) aircraft, like \u00a0a Cessna. \u00a0Buying an ultralight is a bit different, partly because they are (usually) far less money, but also there&#8217;s less to go wrong, more you can see, but no certifications.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">To buy an S-LSA, well, they are just smaller version of Cessna&#8217;s and Piper&#8217;s and so forth, and there will probably be one or more dealers you can visit and talk to, and the experience will be similar to buying an expensive car.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000;
