{"id":5031,"date":"1999-12-29T10:16:59","date_gmt":"1999-12-29T16:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.texas-flyer.com\/newblog\/?p=5031"},"modified":"2023-12-25T10:17:47","modified_gmt":"2023-12-25T16:17:47","slug":"faq-rentals_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.texas-flyer.com\/newblog\/?p=5031","title":{"rendered":"FAQ &#8211; Rentals_"},"content":{"rendered":"<table style=\"height: 44px;\" width=\"656\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 644.2px;\"><b><span style=\"color: #000066; font-family: Arial;\">Question:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #908d32; font-family: Arial;\">Where can I rent an ultralight or LSA?<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<hr align=\"center\" width=\"64%\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table width=\"534\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"524\"><b><span style=\"color: #908d32; font-family: Arial;\">Answer:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Chances are slim and none that you&#8217;ll\u00a0<u>ever<\/u>\u00a0be able to rent a\u00a0legal ultralight. \u00a0Maybe\u00a0someone\u00a0does\u00a0it,\u00a0but\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0never\u00a0heard\u00a0of\u00a0them!<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">For someone to want to rent you an ultralight, they&#8217;d have to have it insured, and getting the right kind of insurance on a UL is difficult, if not impossible. \u00a0As odd as this sounds, you&#8217;ll probably have better luck befriending a UL owner\/pilot and eventually convincing him\/her to let you borrow it.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Renting an LSA is much more likely, and probably similar to a Private Pilot renting a Cessna or Piper. \u00a0You&#8217;ll have to show your license, your log book and take an orientation flight with someone, and all that will cost you up front. \u00a0If they are satisfied that you&#8217;re trustworthy and capable, then you&#8217;ll have to own up the $100-$150 per hour (wet). \u00a0That&#8217;s just a guess, but most SP training schools already charge that.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">For a while, the FBOs and schools that will have LSA rentals will be few and far between. \u00a0Five years from now, it will be much more common. \u00a0But, I would use the same links shown in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/texas-flyer.com\/faq-q1.htm\">FAQ #1<\/a>\u00a0to contact instructors to find out if they or their school rents LSAs.\u00a0 Or, you can just try a Google search, like:\u00a0 &#8220;LSA rental&#8221;.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Another option is a club. \u00a0There may not be many clubs oriented to just LSAs, but certainly there are flying clubs with J3 Cubs and other smaller GA aircraft which fall inside the LSA envelope, and would be legal for you to fly with a Sport Pilot certificate. \u00a0Club membership and fees are often much less expensive than what you&#8217;d find at an FBO, and there&#8217;s the side benefit of fellowship with like-minded enthusiasts!<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Question:\u00a0Where can I rent an ultralight or LSA? &nbsp; Answer:\u00a0\u00a0 Chances are slim and none that you&#8217;ll\u00a0ever\u00a0be able to rent a\u00a0legal ultralight. \u00a0Maybe\u00a0someone\u00a0does\u00a0it,\u00a0but\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0never\u00a0heard\u00a0of\u00a0them!
