{"id":5037,"date":"1999-12-29T10:23:09","date_gmt":"1999-12-29T16:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.texas-flyer.com\/newblog\/?p=5037"},"modified":"2023-12-25T10:23:44","modified_gmt":"2023-12-25T16:23:44","slug":"faq-how-to-buy_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.texas-flyer.com\/newblog\/?p=5037","title":{"rendered":"FAQ &#8211; How to buy_"},"content":{"rendered":"<table width=\"534\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"524\"><b><span style=\"color: #000066; font-family: Arial;\">Question:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #908d32; font-family: Arial;\">How do I know the UL\/LSA I&#8217;m buying is worth the money and is safe, and in good condition?<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<hr align=\"center\" width=\"64%\" \/>\n<table width=\"534\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"524\"><b><span style=\"color: #908d32; font-family: Arial;\">Answer:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Buying an LSA is more like buying a General Aviation (GA) aircraft, such as\u00a0a Cessna. \u00a0Buying an ultralight is a bit different, partly because ULs are (usually) far less money, but also there&#8217;s less to go wrong, more you can see, but no certifications.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Before buying an ultralight, find someone that owns one or has owned several, someone you trust, someone who likes to get their hands dirty and fixes their own engines and such. \u00a0They would be an excellent ally in buying an ultralight and not getting ripped off.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">To buy an S-LSA, well, they are just smaller version of Cessna&#8217;s and Piper&#8217;s and so forth, and there will probably be one or more dealers you can visit and talk to.\u00a0 The experience may be similar to buying an expensive car.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Buying an E-LSA falls somewhere between the two. \u00a0There may or may not be dealers, but there will usually be a kit manufacturer that you can talk to and get advice from. \u00a0Finding someone that owns the same model you&#8217;re interested in would be of paramount importance.\u00a0 For any aircraft that isn&#8217;t brand-new and certified, it&#8217;s worth it to have an A&amp;P mechanic go over the aircraft and give you a written report on its status.\u00a0 While an A&amp;P might not be willing to do that for an ultralight, they will usually do it for an E-LSA (or GA aircraft that falls into the LSA performance envelope).<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #660000; font-family: Arial;\">Always make sure the aircraft will fly before you buy it. \u00a0(This isn&#8217;t a problem with S-LSAs, as a rule, but do it anyway.) \u00a0I always want to see an aircraft fly before I buy it, and I&#8217;ve yet to get a bad apple.<\/span><\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Question:\u00a0How do I know the UL\/LSA I&#8217;m buying is worth the money and is safe, and in good condition?
